Well, perhaps they are new promo photos, rather than production photos. Tweedle DeDe has a new hair color--darker and with red streaks--that I personally adore, of course. And Charlie Dodgson has a new sculpt, and it appears his hair is lighter, plus his suit is different (of course, I don't have either of the original promo photos handy). I like him, actually.
Plus, check out the amazing new Yvonne Craig portrait sculpt for Batgirl 1966. If she looks even close to this in production, that will be incredible. She's gorgeous, and I love the hair, too. It is, however, quite a bit different than the sneak peek we saw before (I think the sneak might be Hawkgirl, or it was originally).
I'd be a little remiss if I didn't mention I'd heard some griping, though from what I can tell, the dolls (especially Batgirl) are mightily improved. And I think getting any promo photo at all is a bit risky, since in production, dolls vary widely. I understand that changing hair to something with red streaks might change a buyer's mind on preorder, however, since in most parts of the country, it's hard to carry off fantasy hair color, and many collectors purchase with the intent to redress the doll.
In my ever-so-humble opinion, promo photos are seldom very accurate, but are akin to looking at a sketch. I wonder if this is going to encourage Tonner to stop offering promos at all--I hope not! I love being able to plan my purchases pretty far in advance. Thoughts? Comments?
