This review is long overdue, as I preordered a copy of this amazing coffee table book at the Barbie Convention last year. While the book is pricey at $75, it's worth every penny. Every vintage Barbie fan should be proud to own a copy. It's currently available for purchase at the author's website.
The book is an excellent quality and finished at 12.5" x 9". It's 130 full-color pages, and it includes a detailed index of photographed dolls with their outfits, numbers, and year released. Currently, it's available as in hard cover with dust jacket. The quality leaves nothing to be desired--every photo is gorgeously done, and it includes some wonderful surprises.
I'd deem this volume more of an art book than a reference, though Mr. Foote's index is very handy. (Already, my vintage collection has become a little more prominent, and I've updated my shopping list for the Barbie convention coming up!) The photography is simply amazing--clear, creative and fun--and you'll find a nice selection of dolls in the volume. I've found myself returning again and again to many specific photos. Barbie and her friends are included from her release date in 1959 (in her traditional black and white swimsuit) through 1990 in Bob Mackie.
This book is a perfect gift for any and all Barbie collectors on your list, or as a introduction to someone new to vintage Barbie. Don't wait--add this book to your collection today. You'll be glad you did!
